The Woes & Throes of Detoxifying

fatVSthinNew Year’s Eve and all I can hear is a sketchy rendition of Steely Dan’s “Are you reelin’ in the years?” It’s that prickly time of the calendar year that we set our intentions to detoxify our bodies, lose the Xmas pudding pounds, and survive the mosh-pit that is school holidays. I personally prefer the more extreme “wall of death” mosh with my kids – swinging my arms back and forth and moving my legs in a rhythmic fashion. Belle Gibson was the founder of the well-known The Whole Pantry app.  She was a popular online celebrity with a mass following on Facebook and Instagram having claimed that she survived an aggressive form of Brain Cancer which had spread to other areas of her body using alternative therapies and wholefoods.  The Whole Pantry (TWP) app found it’s way to the Apple top 5 of 2013 and her much anticipated cookbook began hitting the stores early this year – Belle would not have been wrong to say she was sitting on top of the world. Iron Soup – for Women (and their family)

Liver Soup

This soup cooks well in a slow cooker or over low heat. It requires only a few hours of cooking – though I have managed to throw it together quite quickly at times.

It is a perfect soup to support your Liver in the build up to your cycle as it is packed with a variety of Spinach, Kale and Parsley – rich in organic iron, chlorophyll and antioxidants. Broccoli is a valuable source of carotenoids and sulphur-compounds that support hormone metabolism via the liver and Garlic which also promotes gut health (I use potato to thicken the base).
